Daily reminder to Just Do It.

Virgil Abloh was an extraordinary person. He was an architect, fashion designer, artist and dj. Boundless creativity and so dedicated to get everything out of life. He kept on creating until his passing due to a rare form of cancer, a process he endured privately.

His story inspires me to Just Do It. I find it so incredible what this man accomplished in his short life, even whilst being sick and I am super grateful for the lessons learned.

I bring an ode to him by hanging a daily reminder in the window of my studio.

It’s an Ode inspired by the way he thought. He did a project for Nike, where he created a series of remakes of the ten most iconic Nike shoes. Virgil played with language and sculptural elements to construct new meaning. Inspired by Dadaism, architectural theory, and avant-garde happenings he analyzed what makes each shoe iconic and deconstructed it into an artistic assemblage, making each shoe into a piece of industrial design, a readymade sculpture, and a wearable all at once.

This inspired me to play with his interpretation of the typography of “ AIR ” from the ‘Nike Air VaporMax A NEW STANDARD OF AIR’ and turn it into a daily reminder to get the best out of life.

The frame is welded from steal and painted matt black and the letters and symbols are cut out of plexiglass and painted with black glass paint.

130 x 35 x 2,5 cm
