“THE LIVING PORTRAIT”
Dirk and Jasmijn where together for 10 years and then they got married. He asked me to make a portrait of their lives together, with their two children.
I made them a living portrait - ‘Huffelpuff, Harry Potter style’ - in her favourite colours pink, and the frame out of his favourite green marble.
Ten elements. One for each year they have been together:
The Grass. Wink to the interior of the ‘Huffelpuff’ house.
The Iris. Her signature scent.
The Heart. Stands the unshakable bond and deep love for eachother, their friends & family.
The Dinner Table. The centre piece in their house and the place for the family dinners and many festive nights with friends.
Cabbage. Stands for femininity and birth.
The Car. As they love to travel and go on road trips.
The Tree. Nature plays a big role in their lives. From birding to hiking in the big outdoors.
The Heart. A big family of relatives and friends lights up their life.
The House. It stands for their core. One happy family!
Materials: marble frame and the other elements are existing materials, given new purpose.

Green marble frame.
Dirk expressed how he loved the green marble he saw in a previous work of mine. So I made their family portrait in a custom marble frame.
Custom colour pallete.
For this Ode I created a custom colour palette around Jasmijn’s favourite colour ‘old pink’.
